From the people who know best, a selection of Squaw and North Tahoe locals give us insight on the best things to do, see, go, eat, events, etc..this Spring. So much to do, plus with the addition of the mountain staying open in May, there are even more fun activities on the list.

Squaw Valley Resorts Hot Tub at High Camp, is an iconic get together of

all walks of life. Get to know locals, visitors, young, old, ski pros and newbies. Plus, the views are some of the best in Tahoe at 8200 elevation and the beer is cold. Swim all day in the pool and relax in the hot tub.

Spring is a multi-sport season!
One of the best ways to experience the warmth and sunshine of Lake Tahoe is by paddle board, kayak, or boat. If you’re into experiencing the water in a different way, there’s always Fly Fishing! We recommend Matt Heron Fly Fishing in Squaw Valley.
Rock climbing season has begun, and you have the chance to rope-up! We recommend Donner Summit or Big Chief.Hiking is a must for anyone, whether you need to find your zen on a solo adventure or you want to experience with a group. During the spring months, you’ll get to see some of the most gorgeous waterfalls from all of that snow runoff. Some of PlumpJack Squaw Valley Inn’s staff recommend Shirley Canyon or the many trails around Emerald Bay. Check out the massive list of hiking trails in Squaw Valley here.
1510-Plumpjack SVI-345Dining and Drinking Everyone agrees there is a lot of great dining and drinking to go around in North Lake Tahoe, and especially Squaw Valley. We are biased and think that PlumpJack Cafe has the best weekday happy hour and a pretty darn good bar menu, and then the dining room, which is the spot for a more elevated culinary experience. We are also big fans of many of our fellow restaurants and bars. In Squaw Valley, we love Mamasake for their Beer and a Handroll special and their excellent sushi. We also love grabbing a glass of wine and some cheese at Uncorked. For a rowdy and fun night, you can’t miss the Cantina where all the locals go for cheap PBRs and music.

PS – Don’t miss PlumpJack Cafe’s Pig Roast & Tequila Toast on June 12th. This years theme is Mexican, enjoy Mexican beers, tequila and inspired cocktails with slow roasted carnitas.

Paul’s Three Favorite Gin Cocktails for Spring

If spring is the season when flowers bloom, filling the air with fragrance, then gin is the springtime of spirits filling a glass. Paul Birman from PlumpJack Wine & Spirits’ Fillmore location, shares his three  favorite gin cocktails for spring.nike free sneakers

Every gin is different with its own unique recipe of botanicals, just as every flower has its distinctive aroma. Juniper, citrus, chamomile, bergamot, and a million other aromas can all be part of a gin’s bouquet. For me, a gin and tonic can’t help but evoke images of lounging on a warm sunny day with a cool, refreshing, cocktail in hand. So grab your cocktail shaker and a bottle of gin and make these delicious drinks. steven curry shoes

Bombay Sapphire Martini served up with olives
A daily requirement to keep my sanity. Sapphire is my go to for it’s classic,
London dry style. Smooth and round, it’s hard to just have one.new balance shoe store

Perfect Negroni with Tanqueray 10 served up with an orange twistnike free 5.0 run

What makes this perfect isn’t just its potency, but the addition of
dry vermouth and sweet vermouth. I cut back a little on the Campari to make it
less sweet as well. I had this with foie gras on New Year’s Eve and the citrus and lightness
of this cocktail made for the perfect pairing.

Ramos Gin Fizz
This New Orleans classic cocktail is a true test of your bartending skills. It’s the
adult version of a dreamsicle. This drink was originally made-to-order using a long
line-up of “shaker boys,” who would shake the drink for 30 seconds each and pass it
down the line. It was said to have taken 12 minutes to properly shake a Ramos
to perfection. It’s not an everyday drink, but worth the effort once it’s made.air jordan shoes by year

If you love gin or are new to the spirit and want to enhance your knowledge, join our
Gin Club at PlumpJack Wine & Spirits. The Club explores modern dry gins, that tone down
the juniper and turn up the intensity of other botanicals for a creative mix of flavors.
Offerings will include gins with different botanicals, garnishes and alcohol content.
You will receive cocktail recipes along with a detailed write up.new balance running

Behind The Threads: Tart Collections

Jamie and Dana Finegold of Tart Collections

Jamie and Dana Finegold of Tart Collections

“Quintessential California style.”

We’re excited to introduce our new series – Behind The Threads, where we’ll be talking with some of the faces behind the amazing brands we carry at PlumpJackSport.

We’ve carried bay area based line, Tart Collections, at PlumpJackSport for two years now and what attracted us to the line, was it’s effortless, fabulous fitting pieces and the super soft fabrics they have come to be known for. We sat down with husband and wife team, Jamie and Dana Finegold, owners of Tart Collections to talk about the creation of the line and why it works for every style.

Jamie Finegold’s hobby of design sprouted while he was attending school at UC Santa Barbara. He got his start by making t-shirts for athletic teams and sororities on campus and people took notice quickly and soon made a name for himself. Dana and Jamie (high school sweethearts) soon became partners, and in 1996, with Dana’s advertising and business background and Jamie’s designs, they launched JD Fine & Co.. Establishing their line of sleepwear for children and women, it was picked up my major retailers and had a great response from customers. From there, they created Tart Collections in 2004 to hone in on their growing female customer base, creating a women’s wear line that is versatile and chic.

Since then, Tart Collections has gained attention and is now available online and in high-end department store retailers and boutiques. Jamie said he knew Dana and him were “doing something right” when the line gained more and more momentum through an increasing celebrity following from the likes of Heidi Klum, Jessica Alba, Katy Perry and more. Jamie and Dana keep key cities in mind while designing, as each piece is weather tailored for ladies from all climates and with an emphasis on the pieces skimming the body just the right way. The super soft modal fabric that is consistent in each collection has become their signature feel.

The success of the company comes from the tight knit atmosphere of the staff at the Tart Collection offices. Jamie does the photography and oversees the design team and Dana oversees financials. They also have factories here in the bay area and have their sights set on manufacturing the entire line in the US, and to open Tart Collection retail stores so customers can get the full Tart experience.

For more information about the line and to see their latest collection, check out Tart Collections.

Conversations with Hilary: The Easter Bunny

bunny

April’s celebrity guest, America’s beloved Easter Bunny, shares what it means to live in the springtime spotlight.

What do you believe to be your greatest accomplishment?
I’d have to say my greatest accomplishment has been getting a chocolate figurine of myself in virtually every grocery store in America.

Do you have a prized possession? What?
A 14-karat gold-filled Cadbury egg. I keep it safe in a well-hidden patch of grass.

What do you love about yourself? What do you think others love about you?
I’m a great cook (famous for my Timothy Hay Sushi rolls and carrot bisque)

If you could be anything other than what you currently are, what would it be?
Santa Claus. That guy’s got everything.

What’s the first thing you do when you wake up?
On Easter, or my birthday as I like to call it, I’ll roll outta bed to enjoy a piping hot pan of hot cross buns and 10-12 cups of coffee. Long day ahead of me!

What’s your favorite thing to do on a Friday night?
Put my feet up with a glass of chard and a box of Peeps.

What do you like most about what you do for a living/career?
I’m pretty much the only rabbit in the hospitality business. I enjoy being a hot commodity.

What were you passionate about when you were a teenager?
Getting tail.

What are you passionate about now?
Fighting overpopulation.

What’s your favorite season? Why?
Springtime. It’s a time of growth and sensory indulgence. My holiday celebrates the end of Lent, so I am all about indulgence. Spring for me is about treating yourself and others to the finer things in life.

If you were a cocktail or drink what would it be?
A chocolate martini, dirty, two jellybeans.

If you were stranded on a desert island, what 3 items would you want to have with you?
My carrot shaped body pillow.

If you could be invisible for a day, what would you do?
I’d use it on Easter Eve, so I could hide baskets and go unnoticed- eliminate the shock of seeing a large rabbit sneak into their
