A Good Idea- PlumpJack Supports San Francisco Community

PlumpJack GIVES- Katie Snider, PlumpJack Creative Manager, shares her story of giving with a San Francisco Not for Profit that gets out into the community...

Making a difference, one Good Idea at a time...About six months ago I got involved with a San Francisco nonprofit called A Good Idea. We spend our time serving the San Francisco community in various ways – whether through our quarterly Intentional Acts of Kindness events, our monthly direct service events serving the homeless on the streets in our community, or our plan to bring a first-of-its-kind in San Francisco, fully accredited residential high school for homeless teens called Hope Academy of Arts & Sciences, they all share one common thread… connecting people in need with people who want to help. I’m so excited to be a part of what I consider one of the most incredible nonprofits in the country, and I’m happy that PlumpJack has been so supportive of our work in the community. Chef Jose Lemus of Balboa Cafe even baked dozens of cookies for us to hand out to the homeless just weeks ago. If you’re interested in getting involved or learning more about us, visit agoodideasf.org.

SF Hot Spots According to MatrixFillmore Entertainment Director, Jared-F

Are you ready to dance? Insider's Tip: Jared-F, Entertainment Director at MatrixFillmore and hot spot DJ around San Francisco gives PlumpJack Blog readers his top picks.

When I play at MatrixFillmore I want to have as much fun as possible. I play a lot of classic dance music and Top 40 remixes, while still playing a good deal of house music. The last three years have brought tons of change to the venue, while retaining its core ideology of being a Ultra Lounge. I am honored to have had the experience of being the Entertainment Director at MatrixFillmore and to have been able to be part of the rejuvention of the best small club in San Francisco.

  1. Vessel Some of the best local and international DJ's.

  2. Ruby Skye Probably my favorite club to play. It was rated the Best Club in the US by Club World magazine. These are the best international DJ's, all ranking top 50 in the world. I am part of a monthly event there called World Town.

  3. Slide The same people as Ruby Skye own this venue. Much like the MatrixFillmore clientele, but a little more Top 40 oriented. Loads of fun and great local and international DJ's.

  4. 1015 Folsom The most historically important club on the west coast, in my opinion.
The explosion of dance/electronic music started here in 1988. It's a true super club with four large rooms, over 3000 people can be in this place at once. I am a resident in the Electro/Mashup/Hip-Hop/Dance room three times a month. Still has some of the best DJ's in the world and it goes until 7AM every Saturday. I am known to play 10PM-6AM sometimes too ;).

  5. One of my FAVORITE clubs in town is The Endup. Perhaps has perhaps most interesting clientele of any on this list. This place is open every weekend from Friday at 10:00pm through Monday morning at 4:00am. It's the longest running club in town and every year is voted Best DJ's in SF by the Guardian. Not for faint of heart though!

Upcoming dates for me are available on my website http://www.jared-f.com/.

See Jared play at MatrixFillmore on Friday, January 22 and Friday, January 29. Stop in for a cocktail and dance the night away!

GIVE
Philanthropic Giving in San Francisco

Check out this Nob Hill Gazette article exploring the "right way" to give in San Francisco. "It's easy to connect with a cause that is personal," says Hilary Newsom Callan, President of the PlumpJack Group. "I have lost many family members, including my mother, in 2002, to breast cancer. and not there is no turning back. I'm forever committed to that cause."

2010 Fashion Hints from Napa Valley

What to wear? What to wear? I find myself thinking this every morning. As I pack for a weekend in Napa Valley, I turned to PlumpJackSport Manager, Barbara Shook for advice.

- Michelle Curtis, PlumpJack Communications Manager.

"What's hot for 2010? Tube or tunnel scarves with fringe are big for the new year. we have a great piece in now from Tolani. It is a beige dip dye tunnel scarf with fringe. So fun with a basic tee and a boyfriend blazer."

Thanks Barbara! Barbara also made a few late 2009 predictions on the use of "liquid metals" for New Year's Eve. (Liquid metal uses a technique that makes fabric look like metal.) And boy was she right! PlumpJackSport is carrying a "stunning gold liquid metal dress from Yoana Baraschi"- and now I'm seeing liquid metal show up in JCrew in the form of Sperry Top Siders!
