7th Annual PlumpJack Bowling Battle

Last Thursday PlumpJack properties turned into rivals as they battled for the title of 7th Annual Bowling Battle Champion. Teams of five from each property descend on Presidio Bowl in San Francisco with one thought in mind- bringing home gold. The Bowling Battle has been a point of contention for many PlumpJack properties since 2003. This year MatrixFillmore, Balboa Cafe San Francisco, The Carneros Inn and Balboa Cafe Mill Valley each had a chance at a win.

MatrixFillmore held the title of Champion for the first three years of the Tournament (2003-2005). This year they came ready to rumble in token "Jim Beam" attire. If there was a prize for spirit- MatrixFillmore would have had it in the bag. Nate, Jimmy, Pamela and Brigette took style to a new level at Presidio Bowl.

Balboa Cafe Mill Valley came in full force with their new entry to the Tournament. Brendan, Connie, A-Ross (aka Adam Ross), Lorraine and Brian were at the top of their game, having to compete against other Balboa MV employees to play on the team. Watch out for this team next year!

But the real titans of the lanes? Balboa Cafe San Francisco and The Carneros Inn. Brian, Ania, Caitlin, Sven and "Hott" came in HOT. But not as hot as TCI. Jamin, Jeremy, Russ, Tamara and Ernie even brought cheerleaders- Romana and Deby. It was clearly that added support that gave them the high score of the event. And on a personal level, Russ won the "High Scorer" prize with a personal score of 344.

PlumpJack Cafe Executive Chef Rick Edge Gives Back to Seneca Center

PlumpJack Cafe Chef Rick Edge gave back to the Seneca Center on July 30th by donating his time and chef-pertise to a private fundraising event. Chef Edge created a special menu, complete with recipe cards, for the donors, with all proceeds benefiting foster children and families in the Bay Area.

Winemaker Tony Biagi Spots Harvest in Napa Valley

I was just driving down the Silverado Trail today and the first signs of harvest are here; Mumm's FYB’s. This is the signal to all in the valley that harvest is rapidly approaching. Now there are other signs, but the 3 story stack of harvest bins or (F***in Yellow Boxes as they are affectionately called) at Mumm really drives the point home. In the vineyard Sauvignon Blanc is just finishing up veraison and Cabernet Sauvignon is just starting. We are predicting SB harvest around first week of September and the Cabernet Sauvignon last week of September through October. The crop looks to be average size to a tad heavy in areas. We are making our second thinning pass in our estate vineyards right now. To early to tell what the quality will be like, but I am enthusiastic about the harvest dates and quality. We feel the earlier the harvest the more you can have flexibility to hang the fruit out for maximum phenolic ripeness.
